Default Do you host your own sites?

I wonder how many people here host their own sites.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of hosting your own site?
Is that hard to maintain a server? How do you prevent hacking attacks? Is your electricity bill high??
I know that's a lot of questions but I would like to get a picture to decide it is worth hosting my own websites.

Thanks

Well, it isn't the same as hosting your own server in your home or office. I was thinking about people who manage their own server.

I can only use a hosting company's services, since my ISP bans port 80 for home server usage.

Can be troublesome for a newbie to try and figure out apache, settings, etc on their home computers.

I currently use hosting companies for all my sites. I used to use a Server Box at home to host one of my sites (maybe 1-2 years ago) but my connection wasn't exactly fast so it didn't really work out that well.

I currently host most of my sites on paid hosting services and I think hostgator is the best of all . I have like 5 sites on free hosting services but they dont get much traffic so wont even bother to host them . I am thinking of buying a new server soon but not sure about it .

I don't host my site on my own server. The only time you would find someone who does this is when they have a need for a dedicated server and even then it is a seperate system not done on my personal computer.

It would not be recommended to host your website on your own computer. At least I wouldn't do it.

I think after all, hosting your own site is a lot of hassle and your time might be better spent at developing your website instead of maintaining a server and worrying about security.
