well it really depends on your website....

I would say for starting off on a simple website you'll want to go with a web hosting service, until the website starts either generating enough revenue to pay for something more or you determine that you need something more than the web hosting service provides...

I have to agree, but once you have a website that can generate money go dedicated.

I would have to say that owning a server is costly. You have to figure that not everyone is going to go after your services without seeing some kind of review first. Also you have to figure out how to make sure it doesn't go down.

If you want to start like a reseller type hosting, then it will cost a lot less. I'd start off small and then go bigger as you get the demand for it.

Well, you need to be a full time internet user/surfer and a big time geek to have a dedicated server. I would be glad to have my own server if I had the time and resources! And the knowledge of
course.

Web hosting is still preferable as it wont eat up a lot of time and you can concentrate on your website!

Definately webhosting is better for many people. If you have the resources , knowledge and people to manage the server hosting, you would be hosting business, Right! But as a humble webdesigner and developer i would like to host my site, leave all techie things to experts and concentrate on my website.
