DW tends to add a lot of fluff behind the scenes, from personal experience. Of course, seasoned users know what to do to avoid this, but those of us who read "how to code in 24 hours" books, they end up abusing DW's features and end up with bloated sites.
Based on personal experience, I would recommend either of the following: homesite, intelliJ, Eclipse. Of course, when all else fails and to really show the world that you know what you say you know, notepad comes in real handy
Notepad is what separates the boys from the men. If you can code a site 100% in notepad (that means not relying on some editor to fill in attributes for you, etc), then you are a real webmaster in my books. Did I hear someone say, "notepad is stone age and is not time efficient"? Sure, but again, if you claim to know what you say you know and to have a better appreciation for your trade, code a site in notepad. I still do, every now and then and I can tell you that it isn't easy.
