Default What are Web Standards and Why Should I Learn It ?

Web standards are important, and getting moreso every day. Tables for layout are out. There are many reasons to learn web standards and code your sites to adhere to them as much as you can. You don't have to become a 'standardista', but learning and coding for web standards will help you - and your clients. Yes, there's a learning curve, but a good web master never stops learning

Here is a list of some resources for learning about Web Standards and why they are important.

Why should you bother ?? There are good business reasons:

Along with Web Standards, you have to also grasp Usability and Accessibility (it's not JUST about the blind !)

Wow, that's alot of useful links.

I use Opera/Firefox wayyy more than IE, sadly site compatibility usually favors IE. Wonder if there'll ever be a day where all sites work perfectly in every browser.

Wow, you got the huge list, but as a designer, you need to know standards. Standards are good, and once you are ready to use them, they help you in making your desings more acceptable and worthy.

I think that so long as you stick to standards you are pretty much fine. IE7 is pretty standards complaint, as is Firefox. From what I've heard, Opera and Safari are the most compliant browsers, and Firefox 3 and IE8 are following suit, with both passing the ACID 2 test.

Anyway, nice collection of links. I also would recommend the W3 school site ( google it as I have less than 20 posts and cannot post the link ).

This is very helpful , will go through all this standards. In semantic web, standards have become very necessary and websites which are not following the standards are only hurting themselves.

Standard compliant does not necessarily mean that your website gets displayed in all browsers in exactly the same way. That being said, making your website standard-compliant is highly recommended.
