Default Any tool to delete "extra" code of HTML pages?

When you use a software to generate automatically the HTML code for your site, it usually adds some extra code I would like to get rid of.

Do you know if there is any tool to do this automatically and save time editting html codes?

Wouldn't it be quicker not to generate that code and write it yourself? Otherwise it seems like you are doing double the work, generating it, then reverse-editing it, it seems unproductive, don't you think?

say, how about if the HTML is generated by PHP or something. And, somehow, the job requires to back-up the generated text and compile it into CHM file for downloadable user manual. Sometimes, this could be messy.

I think a tool does exists and I strongly believe it is also free... I read such info on some Java tutorial about javadoc.
