May I know who I am arguing with ????? You call that an argument - I call that expression of opinions...duh !

META TAGs is not something worth to be argued on. Everybody knows that they are ignored by all major search engines. Care about MSN - well then you should know that MSN occupies a mere 8% of the Global search market.

I use description tag but on pages which has a lot of text, I can easily even ignore it....go for it guys...go for the METAs and be happy

Don't Drop the Meta-Tags

Several years ago the search engines devalued the use of meta-tags in determining rankings. But because they use the meta-tags as page descriptions in their SERP pages, you must make special efforts to ensure that the content presented to searchers inspires them to click on your links rather than your competitors'.

If you don't put meta-tags on your website's pages, then Yahoo and MSN (with a combined market share of around 45%) will just guess at what to put in the description of your website. They will pull phrases out of context (much the way Google does) from your site and slap them in there. The result is not nearly as inviting as it could have been otherwise. That's why it is always beneficial to learn to write effective meta-tags....

Meta tags still play important rle in sites ranking and in the indexing pattern of the site so its waist of time just arguing they are not important now as we all know and even the ones who say they dont use meta tags first start with meta tags before submitting there sites to search engines.
so its only a way to distract people by saying this they dont care about meta tags.

Some said Meta's is not that important but some search engine is prioritize Meta's like MSN while yahoo is after the density of the site.

The information is really helpful dude. Thank you. But still the metatag has its own purpose. Google has not announced its future plan regarding the PR's. So they may or may not change their standards. So still metatag plays a vital role.

Meta tags might have lost its power and some SEOs are disregarding it now a days... But somehow it is still useful cause it serves as a synopsis/hint/brief description on the content/theme of a web page for some Search Engines and also for the site visitors

This is exactly correct straight from Matt Cutts himself.
