Hi all,
I've read all the replies and most of you said that a forum sig is considered
a backlink by SE. If it's just a link back to your website, yes it is, but
if you're thinking that this "backlink" will improve your PR, then I beg to differ.
Somewhere last year Google has mentioned that the backlinks from forum
will not be used as a consideration for boosting PR, because over the years
too many people have abused this system and place their backlinks in
whatever forums they stumbled upon, and this greatly messed up the
page ranking system.
But indisputably the sig file in the forum does help you bring more traffic.
Hope this clears all your doubts.
If you want to really boost up your SE ranking and bring more "organic"
traffic to your website, you'll need to go by the genuine SEO strategy
that is legal and favored by all search engines especially Google and
Yahoo.
There's a place where you can download the search engine ebook for
free and you can learn some great tactics there.

(Sorry dudes, as I'm a new passer-by, I can't make the link active
unless I've made 20 posts, so you'll have to copy and paste the
url into your browser to take a look.)
Hope that helps.
