I understand both sides of the fence on this, which is why I engage in both, personally. One site I have I wanted to control things a lot, and different styles were not useful or called for in my view. But other sites, due to their nature, called for it - people wanted choices, or at least, appreciated them. It was also very easy to add the new style choices. I think the trend going forward is to offer users a lot of different choices, to help them custom it to their liking. Some really like dark themes, some like bigger fonts, etc. In fact, one day, I expect a revolution in forum software that allows users to really custom their own look and experience, nevermind just have a bunch of skins to pick from.

I don't understand, get rid of the styles that are useless but add some more, in order that the members find it pleasing to come and view the community. It actually will make a difference if they don't like the style.

I have always typically offered a light version and a dark version, effectively keeping everyone happy (hopefully). Personally I like the dark versions BUT someone always has problems with their eyes or reading the text or something, so I offer both to accommodate all.

Yeah, that sounds good, I just never understood why to not give more than one choice.

well as quick as i say that I only have one available on my current forum, lol - but if you have to only hve one, I always suggest the lighter one. more people like lighter forums vs dark or black ones.

The only drawback I see is having to create a different logo for each style.

I prefer only a single default template.

I think it is too much of a headache to provide more than one style and have to support them. So, I usually provide just one style and I don't know if users really care.
I have 28 styles but they are all recolours of the same 3 templates.
