Default Which Language to learn?

Hello to all ....

Well its like i am a Designer and mainly work on print designs such as brochures and ads. Recently due to me knowing photoshop i have started designing website too. But I don't know any programming language other then the basic HTML and CSS.

Can anyone here suggest me as to which programming language should i start learning. keeping in mind that i only know HTML and CSS. Should i got for PHP (which looks simple to me, that is, i can understand the codes a bit) or ASP / ASP.NET (which is really scary to see at!)....

thanks in advance

I would certainly go for PHP! PHP is an easier language to understand, it has more logic and basically it is more helpful too! You could try Javascript which is also quite easy but does not have as much functionality as PHP!

It really depends on what websites you want to make.
Personally I don't think php is more powerfull then ASP(.NET).
But ASP is more used in business enviroments.
So if you want to create "normal" websites, it's probably better to learn php.
If you want to become a professional programmer I recommend ASP.NET or Java (even better).

PHP is the simplest programming language found in the web. Try also ASP and other languages like Ruby, Java, Perl, Cold Fusion, etc

Sorry but i have to awnser one thing... You want to be webdesigner or programmer to write code? Or you want both? Because being webdesigner should be enough to know some professional image editing software like photoshop and others like flash do give your site a professinal look... Since you´re acquainted with html it should be easier. Now if you want to become also a programmer then i think, and it´s just my oppinion that you learn asp.net (be aware that .net is not fully compatible with ASP)... Now i know that many people will criticize me but nothing like have a look around VB.net also... Cheers!

if you're a desktop programmer with Visual Basic skills, ASP would be easy for you.

and if you're coming from Java you can go for JSP.

but if you're coming from C/C++ you can go for PHP.

As for me, I'm am a Visual Basic programmer on desktops development and a PHP programmer for the Web
