I have saw this word in many websites like Google APIs, Youtube APIs, etc. But I have no idea what they are for. Many webmasters talk about this thing too and how they can use them in their websites.
They are a means of communication with another application. It works in the same way as OOP does.
The remote app has properties that can be changed or read and methods that can be used . And the API gives the programmer the means to access those methods and properties without needing to know anything about the internals of the application.
