A few years ago, CGI was widely used for creating scripts to use in websites: forms, topsites, counters, guestbooks, etc.
But now, it's like it's not being used anymore and other languages are more popular among programmers and webmasters than it.

What happened to CGI? I'm curious why it disappeared or at least it's not so common as it used to be

Better and more powerful languages came along
