I also buy links not just for SEO, but for reaching my target market as well - a usual venue would be arelevant site which also caters to my target audience.
Im not so sure about buying links anymore. You can get ripped off so easily its not even funny. For instance, you pay someone for a 6 month text link, they get the money and then remove your link. Nothing you can do about it either.
