What is link baiting? It sounds like something to avoid. I'm probably comepletely off track and it's something we should aim for.

Actually, it is not something to avoid. It is enticing people to link to your page or your site so that you get backlinks and traffic.

Link baiting is a better idea on getting traffic and links. Link baiting is a method where webmasters use good content that may get the viewer's attention by social bookmarking, articles, blogs, newsletters, and many more.
