Default Where To Place "nofollow" tag

On one of my pages on my sites I decided I don`t want any of the links to be followed, since most of them are to an affiliate site. I`d already placed rel="nofollow" on a few of the links, but decided I`d prefer to have all my links "nofollow."

So, I placed the tag - <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="INDEX, NOFOLLOW"> after the <title> tag, but, when I came to look at `properties` in Firefox the links remained as `new window` rather than `nofollow.` I then moved that tag and placed it immediately below <head> but still the same. Am I placing it in the wrong position?

You are mixing up several things. Which is what happens when people get the names wrong

the robots meta does NOT change any information on the page so whatever is in the attributes of links is what the firefox plugin can report.
The robots meta is an instruction only to compliant bots/indexers on how to treat ALL the links on the page. So as long as it is in between the <head> </head> tags, it will do exactly what you want.

Maybe you should use <a rel=nofollow href=""> it will show you the result.

The standard procedure which most webmasters use is to add the tag to just every link you are about to edit and not making changes to the whole pages links and web addresses. This way, you can have better control over the way every links is modified.
