Well, Google has introduced the no follow technique not for the links to stop being valuable as many no follow links still are counted by Google and Yahoo but adding the no follow tag to the links will certainly stop the PR juice from spreading to them and this is what Google likes webmasters selling links to do.

It makes you wonder how some of these text link brokers are managing to stay in business now days. Since Google has cracked down on paid text links that pass PR and the link brokers promote high PR links, it seems like something will have to give.

Google is only after paid links that manipulates SERP and PR. If a paid link is solely for traffic generation, there won't be any problem.
