Advertising a forum with adwords?

For those who run a forum, it is profitable to promote a forum using Google adwords or is it simply a waste of money?
Do you get a good return on your money by promoting a forum using Google adwords.

I think promoting forum with google adwords is waste of money according to me. I would prefer to get good result from related forum signature links and sometimes paid posters or competitions work for forum boosting. Once I have got success using paid posters too.

I agree, paid posting, contests, and forum sigs are the best ways to advertise a forum, also post exchange with other forum masters.
