How to gain max from the google adwords?

I have been a regular user of google adwords for all my campaigns to promote my sites and blogs using it. I have found some successful but some seem to be loss making. How can i fine tune it in such a way that i get max benefit from google adwords.

Target more obscure keywords with lower bids, optimize your landing page, improve your click through rate on your ads.
