Well, that's the million dollar question.
If you can find a niche for a forum where a lot of people would be interested in discussing, you make a killing.
Usually though, forums don't make that much money.

so, the idea is basic. the goal is that you have traffic in your site.

can you please tell, what is needed to establish the forum?
-what knowledges? is it enough to know basic HTML or are there some other knowledges needed?
-what about templates- are they free, where can it be found?
tnx

I think forums related to mobiles are popular now a days , or forums related to games or entertainment. I advice you to go for mobiles forum.

Search engines love forum with a lot of new and fresh content. If you can start a forum and get a lot of people to start posting on it, you can receive traffic from search engines.
The only thing left to do will be to monetize that forum. With adsense and a lot of traffic, you can earn quite some $$$$.

1) Try taking a closer look at the world around you, what' hot, and what's not? Read up on resources such as trade magazines/publications.

2) Emerging/upcoming technologies and trends are decent, but everyone's researching that, so it can be rather competitive.

Get your creative juices going!

I think one of the best ways to earn money is by creating a niche website with high paying keywords and getting the right domain for it. Then simply write good and unique content and traffic will follow. Please note though that Adsense is not for a quick buck, you can make good money in the long run.

Not much is needed to establish a forum besides a webserver and forum software. There are many open-source/free forum software you can use, aswell as some paid ones such as vBulletin. Not much knowledge is needed to use them and a little reading can pretty much tell you all you need to know on how to use them.

Alot of sites offer free forum templates, such as with phpBB they have a section on the site where you can download free templates for use on your forum if you use phpBB.

Some good forum software includes:
vBulletin (paid) - quite expensive but good
IPB (paid) - same as above
phpBB (free) - good with lots of mods/templates (must be kept up to date for security)
SMF (free)
MyBB (free)

Haven't really administered the top 2 or bottom one.

Ok, that was nice, you want ideas to earn money for free.
Actually earning through websites isn't easy as it sounds, you have to put your mind and soul into your idea to bring into life.
and i guess, you can go that far, only if you are doing what you like to do and you feel passionate about the stuff you are reading or writing. You must have some idea or sketch to work for, i would suggest you to do if you know what are you going to do
