I have some good domain names that are available and I am not planning to use them for anything (for the most part, maybe 1 out of 6). I was reading that it is not a very good idea, but other people say they made some substantial amounts of money.
I am not talking about some random names, but names that should have been taken and worth quite a lot etc.
Would you just register and go to sedo.com (or maybe somewhere else, where?)

Domain names are worth nothing at all until someone offers you money for them.

And of course you then have to ask yourself, if they are "valuable" why are they still available??

I know it makes a difference when domains have been used before and they get some kind of traffic that way. Maybe not all of them, but some of them (I would say two) look like they should have been taken and they got to have some value with a website developed around these names etc. I am just wondering if it makes sense to buy it for $10 and park it right away. I've never done that before, so I am not sure, but I think I would probably make at least $10 on it or break even in the worst case scenarion.

Probably not much at all. To get paid for parking there has to be existing traffic, otherwise you have to promote a parked page.
The days of making money from "domain parking" are long behind us. Like all schemes they have a short life.
