If this is correct can you elaborate as in why such actions were brought in to effect?

Because we are thoroughly hacked off with signature link spammers and "drive by" link droppers.
People who use forums correctly and appropriately are not going to be affected by nor care about measures that are taken to maintain or improve the quality of members.

You can still post a URL by leaving off the http & www should it be necessary to your post.

As always these measures are reviewed from time to time and any changes will be announced.
