No. Yahoo can not afford Newscorp. If anything, it would be the other way around. Newscorp could buy Yahoo.
The reality is that Yahoo has been exploring forging an alliance with Newscorp.

SAN FRANCISCO -- If Yahoo truly wants to forestall an acquisition by Microsoft, or just wants a higher price, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. might be able to help.
A source said Yahoo is talking about a possible alliance with News Corp. The person, familiar with the talks, said the specifics of the possible joint venture haven't been worked out.
News Corp.'s Wall Street Journal and a prominent blog, TechCrunch, reported that News Corp. is interested in moving Internet assets like MySpace.com into Yahoo.
Microsoft has offered $31 per share for Yahoo, a bid it has branded as too low.
Yahoo released a letter to shareholders outlining its reasoning for rejecting Microsoft's offer to buy the company. In it, CEO and co-founder Jerry Yang emphasizes Yahoo's strengths as both an online destination and an advertising network, and argues that Yahoo is better off going it alone than combining with Microsoft.
Yang wrote: "The global online advertising market is projected to grow from $45 billion in 2007 to $75 billion in 2010. And we are moving quickly to take advantage of what we see as a unique window of time in the growth -- and evolution -- of this market to build market share and to create value for stockholders."
News Corp chief Rupert Murdoch indicated in a conference call last week that he's not interested in an outright purchase of Yahoo.
