If you are selling something of good quality (like an ebook or software), there is a possibility of you getting reciprocal links with the other big boys with higher page rank, but in the similar niche as you. What you can do is, offer your product to them for free and ask a reciprocal link in exchange. If your product is really good, then they'll happily accept your deal.
